Dan O'Herlihy

Dan O'Herlihy ( born May 1, 1919, County Wexford, Ireland; † 17 February 2005 in Malibu, California ) was an Irish actor.

Life

Originally Dan O'Herlihy studied architecture and came to acting to earn his study money. O'Herlihy was already an experienced stage actor when he made his film debut in 1947 gave Man, directed by Carol Reed in the political thriller Odd Out. In 1955 he was nominated for the title role in Luis Buñuel's film adaptation of the novel Robinson Crusoe for an Oscar. There was this one of the few leading roles of known primarily as a busy character actor actor. Another well-known role was that of Marshal Ney at Waterloo (1971 ) on the side of Rod Steiger. His last film role was in 1998 that the family patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy in a TV movie about the Rat Pack.

O'Herlihy was the brother of film director Michael O'Herlihy and father of actor Gavan O'Herlihy. He left behind his wife, five children, ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
