Danas

Danas (English Today) is a Serbian daily newspaper published in Belgrade.

The first issue of Danas appeared on June 9, 1997. Since the beginning, was editorially placed value on independent reporting policy, but with regard to the regime of Slobodan Milošević. The open and uncensored coverage of events in Serbia and Montenegro, the newspaper was targeted by the Serbian authorities.

On 14 October 1998 Dana was imposed along with two other news papers ( Dnevni Telegraph & Naša Borba ) by the government until further with a ban on writing. The reason given was "because Angstschürerei and Miesmachung ". The ban was imposed when NATO went public in considering the possibility of a bombing of Yugoslavia.

On 20 October 1998, the ban was abrogated again, to be but only by a new draconian legislation, then called " Information Act " is replaced. Under this new law, Dana was repeatedly fined penalties. This caused there were serious considerations set the newspaper, which, however, were not put into action.
