Dane Zajc

Dane Zajc ( born October 26, 1929 in Zgornja Javoršica at Moravče, Yugoslavia, now Slovenia, † October 20, 2005 in Ljubljana) was a Slovenian poet, playwright and author.

Life

Zajc finished his schooling in Ljubljana, where he worked until his retirement as a librarian in a children's library. He published his first poems in 1948 in the journal Mladinska revija. Later work published in Beseda, Naša Sodobnost, Revija 57, perspective, Problemi, Sodobnost and Nova revija.

Dane Zajc was regarded as the most important contemporary Slovenian poet and playwright in his home and received all the relevant literary awards, including the prestigious Prešeren price. The books of Dane Zajc been translated into several languages. He led from 1991 to 1995, the Slovenian section of the PEN Centre. Zajc was a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
