Danforth Foundation

The Danforth Foundation was founded in 1927 and is a private and independent foundation based in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

Founder

The Foundation is named after the spouses William H. Danforth, the Danforth Foundation, founded for the purpose of strengthening and expanding humanitarian work. William H. Danforth (* 1870, † 1955) was co-founder and chairman of the Ralston Purina Company. He was a trustee of Berea College and was promoted posthumously to its Honorary President.

As parents also played the daughter Dorothy Danforth Compton and son Donald Danforth throughout their lives an active and leading role in the foundation. Also other members of the family were involved in the activities and as a founder.

Objectives and Activities

The Foundation aims to assist in the revitalization of the Saint Louis region to make this one of the most prominent cities in the United States.

To fulfill this mission, the Foundation focuses its forces to the promotion of economic development in the areas of biological research of plants and animals, further development of the neighborhoods and revitalization of the historic center of Saint Louis.

For profiling, the Foundation also supports unique projects that attract attention even over the St. Louis region and beyond.
