Daniel Adam z Veleslavína

Daniel Adam z Veleslavína ( born August 31, 1546 Veleslavín, † October 18, 1599 in Prague) was one of the major writers, historians and publishers of humanism in Bohemia. Through his work he influenced the Czech literature in such a way that an era was named after him ( " Veleslavínská doba ").

Life

Daniel Veleslavína studied at the Charles University in Prague; 1569 to 1575 he was a professor there.

He was with Anna, the daughter of printer Georg Melantrich from Aventine, married and later inherited his printing workshop. Its main activity was the organization of printing, proofreading and translations. He contributed as a patron to the flowering of Czech language. The " Silva quadrilinguis " by Daniel Adam was best known in the 16th century among the various Latin- Czech and Czech- Latin dictionaries.

He was also a secret member of the Bohemian Brethren. Later he was elevated to the peerage.

The suffix z Veleslavína means of Veleslavín ( German Weleslawin ), a place that was incorporated in 1922 to Prague.
