Life

Daniel Bell was born in Sacramento but grew up near Toronto ( Canada). Through Detroit radio stations, he discovered in the 1980s, the new Detroit techno music for themselves. He began more and more interest in music and got a job in a recording studio. Here he began to produce his own tracks. In the late 1980s, he eventually moved to Detroit. There he was taken by Richie Hawtin's label Plus 8 Records. For Plus 8 he produced several singles. Under the pseudonym Cybersonik he published together with Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva, on Hawtin's label sample together with this and Fred Giannelli as Spawn. In 1992, Bell his own label: Accelerate, on which he published under the pseudonym DBX. Since his early works Bell is considered a masterpiece of reduced techno and house music. He is one of the pioneers of minimalist house music, often referred to simply as the minimum. His tracks inspired mainly German minimal house producers.

In 1994 the single Losing Control ( also under the pseudonym DBX ) to Accelerate and the English Peacefrog label. It became a surprise hit and helped Bell to worldwide fame within the techno and house scene.

He founded three record labels: 7th City, Elevate and Harmonie Park. From 7th City soon, a worldwide distributor for Detroit techno developed. The company was Bell only little time for his producing career. Only in 1996 appeared more tracks on DS, Klang Elektronik and Accelerate. A little later 7th City was dissolved and Daniel Bell focused since then more on producing techno and house music. After a few produced for the Berlin Tresor label Tracks Bell moved in 2000 to the German capital and was shortly afterwards his first mix CD in the Globe series on Tresor out: The Button - Down Mind of Daniel Bell.

In recent years he worked mainly as remixers. Some remixes appeared on German house labels like Ladomat 2000 Poker Flat Recordings and Force Inc. Music Works. Lately, he puts on under the pseudonym Dan Bell. Musically, Bell moved from harder, repetitive techno-structures during his time in Detroit increasingly towards Tech House and Minimal House. A development that deals with his stay in Berlin sustainably enhanced.
