Daniel David Ntanda Nsereko

Daniel David Ntanda Nsereko ( born November 27, 1941) is a Ugandan jurist. Since 2007 he has been a judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC ) in The Hague.

Life

Nsereko graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B ) at the University of Dar es Salaam in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. In the same year he completed an internship as a lawyer with Kiwanuka & Co., Advocates in Kampala, Uganda. At Howard University in 1970, he received the Master of Comparative Jurisprudence ( MCJ ) and the New York University School of Law in 1971 the Master of Laws ( LL.M ). He received an Assistant Professor of Law at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, a position he held until 1975. During this time he made the 1972 degree in International Law at the Hague Academy of International Law. From 1973 to 1975 he became a Doctor of Law ( JSD ) at the New York University School of Law and the School of Law, Washington, DC.

In the period 1975-1978 Nsereko worked as a lecturer of Law at Makerere University in Kampala. He then worked as a lawyer until 1982. In 1983 he was Social Affairs Officer at the Centre for Development and Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations in New York. When Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Branch of the United Nations Centre for Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs Nsereko worked from 1983 to 1984 as Expert Consultant.

Nsereko moved in 1984 to the University of Botswana in Gaborone. There he worked as a lecturer before he associate professor in 1992 and 1996. Nsereko was a committed Christian elder and director of Christian education in his day Adventist Church in Gaborone ( Botswana ). In 1993 and 1994 he was Walter S. Owen Visiting Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

In January 2007, Nsereko was chosen along with the Frenchman Bruno Cotte and the Japanese Fumiko Saiga to the International Criminal Court in The Hague. The nomination was supported by the African Union. Nsereko is one of the five members of the Appeals Division.
