Daniel Florence O'Leary

Daniel Florence O'Leary (* 1801 in Cork, † February 24, 1854 in Santa Fé de Bogotá ) was an Irish General and British diplomat in Colombia.

Life

Daniel Florence O'Leary was an Irish general who participated in the South American wars of independence. He was adjutant of Simon Bolivar. He won the appreciation of Bolivar and played a key role in its military and political strategy. In September 1829 José María Córdova [ wp 1] was an apostate. Bolivar O'Leary sent with a force after Antioquia. In the battle of El Santurario on October 17, 1829 Córdova was fatally injured.

O'Leary's autobiography gives information about the time of the wars of independence in South America. He died in Columbia, was transferred by the Venezuelan government to Caracas, where he was buried in a pantheon.
