Daniel McKenzie (racing driver)

Daniel McKenzie ( born October 24, 1988 in Reading) is a British racing driver.

Career

McKenzie began his motorsport career in 2003 in karting, where he was active until 2004. In 2005 he competed in the Radical Sports Prototypes and finished fourth. In 2006, he debuted in Formula racing and was 19th in the British Formula BMW. 2007 McKenzie moved to Fortec Motorsport and remained in the British Formula BMW. He improved to eleventh place overall. He also took part in two races in the German Formula BMW. 2008 McKenzie moved to the Western European Formula Renault and Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. Starting in both series for Fortec Motorsport, he was 23rd in the Western European Formula Renault and remained in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 with no points.

2009 saw McKenzie in the British Formula 3 Championship and stayed again at Fortec Motorsport. He competed in the national class and won with 11 wins from 20 races the championship title of the national class before Gabriel Dias. In 2010 he joined for Fortec Motorsport in the international class of the British Formula 3 Championship. With two wins, he finished ninth overall.

2011 McKenzie went for Comtec Racing in the Formula Renault 3.5 at the start. At the end of the season he was without points on the 30th place in the championship. 2012 McKenzie joined in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. McKenzie reached a second place as best result and was a regular in the points. He finished the season on top of the ninth.

Personal

Before McKenzie has been active in motorsports, he aspired to a career as a professional footballer and played in the youth team of FC Southampton. While he was sidelined by a knee injury in football one year he came with the kart sport he could exercise in his rehabilitation phase in contact and decided on a career in motorsport.
