Daniel Nazareth

Daniel Nazareth ( born June 8, 1948 in Bombay ) is an Indian conductor and composer.

Life and work

Daniel Nazareth studied economics at the University of Mumbai. He then earned a piano diploma from the Royal Schools of Music in London. He studied privately with Igor Markevitch and graduated in 1975 in the conducting class of Hans Swarovsky at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 1977 he made ​​his debut with Mozart's Cosi fan tutte at the Spoleto Festival in Italy. In Tanglewood (Leonardo Bernstein Conducting Fellowship ) he met in 1978 with Leonard Bernstein, Colin Davis, Gunther Schuller and Seiji Ozawa together. Herbert von Karajan invited him as a guest conductor with the Berlin Philharmonic and Vienna Symphony Orchestra. From 1982 to 1985 he was chief conductor of the Symphony Orchestra Berlin ( SOB) that names since 1990 Berliner Symphoniker. In 1988 he assisted Lorin Maazel in Verdi's Requiem in Naples. From 1988 to 1989 he was then chief conductor of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. From 1990 to 1992 he was music director of the Arena di Verona. He worked among others with Luciano Pavarotti and Grace Bumbry. From 1992 to 1996 he was chief conductor of the MDR Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig. He was also guest conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Dresden Staatskapelle, Orchestre de Paris, Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra. After he had to take several years of forced hiatus due to a serious accident, he was director of the Orquesta Sinfonica 2011 Music Nacional de Costa Rica.
