Daniel Stephan ( born August 3, 1973 in Rheinhausen ) is a former German handball player.

In his first years as a youth player Daniel Stephan was at VfL Rheinhausen. In 1982 he moved then to the OSC Rheinhausen. The club he remained faithful until 1994. Then he went to the TBV Lemgo, where he end his active handball career in the 2007/2008 season.

Due to his bad luck with injuries Stephan never played a game at a World Handball Championship. In 1995, he was indeed in the squad but did not play. In 1999, he could not participate because he was suffering from a fracture of the metacarpal bone. In 2001, he was injured on the Achilles tendon. In 2003 and 2005 Daniel Stephan was not there. In European Championships but he was more successful. Where he took 3rd place in the time scoring list with 134 goals in 32 games. Because of his never-ending injury series he gave in 2005 his retirement from international football known.

After he was active as a player in Lemgo over 13 years, he was presented on 14 November 2007 as sports director of TBV Lemgo. His expiring contract player was still so that he as a player was the TBV Lemgo until the end of the season available on call. After failing to qualify for the Champions League 2009 Daniel Stephan was released together with coach Markus Baur in Lemgo.

18 May 2008 his farewell match took place in the Lipperlandhalle in Lemgo. He is by Volker Zerbe only the second Lemgoer, which this honor. In this game, kicked the selection " Daniels Champions " against the " TBV Allstars ".

From 1 July 2010, Daniel Stephan worked as sports director for the second division HSG Dusseldorf, where he has signed a three -year contract. However, he asked in March 2011, at termination of the contract at end of season. This request was granted by the Association.

1998 Daniel Stephen was elected as the first German handball player to the World Handball Player. He had his moment of glory in the seven-meter throw of the Olympic quarter-final against Spain in 2004, when he scored to 32:30.
