Danielle de Niese

Danielle de Niese ( born April 11, 1979 in Melbourne, Australia ) is an opera singer living in the United States. She debuted in 1999 at the age of only 19 years at the New York Metropolitan Opera. De Niese is now a star of the opera world. She became famous especially with lots of baroque operas, such as by George Frideric Handel and Rameau.

Background and education

The parents of Danielle de Niese come from Sri Lanka, but her father also had Dutch ancestors. They emigrated to Australia, where her daughter Danielle was born. De Niese began at the age of eight years with singing lessons. When she was ten years old, her family moved to the United States and settled in Los Angeles. There she attended the Colburn School, where she was taught in drama, dance, song and instrumental music.

As a teenager, Danielle de Niese hosted in a local television station for several years on a show for young people, in which they were familiar with classical music and culture. For its services as a presenter, she was awarded an Emmy.

At the age of 18 years, de Niese was included in the Lindemann Young Artists Program of the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1998. Less than a year later she made her debut in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro in the role of Barbarina.

Career
