Däniken is a municipality in the district of Olten in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.

It is not to be confused with the Zurich municipality Danikon, the Basel community Tenniken and the Thurgau Taenikon.

Geography

Däniken is located in Solothurn Niederamt, between the Aargau cantonal capital Aarau and the center of communication of Olten. The Olten and Aarau, located about 7-8 km from Däniken away. With surrounding hills, the beautiful banks of the Aare and the nearby Jura, it offers a wide and healthy recreation.

The community Däniken measures 543 hectares, of which about a third forest. Neighboring municipalities are Niedergösgen, Obergösgen, Dulliken, Walterswil SO and Gretzenbach. The train station is 382 meters above sea level, the highest point (610 meters) is located in the forest area against Engelberg, in the southwestern border area.

History

A large part of Däniker municipal area was generally influenced very strongly by the Aare. The erratic course of the Aare was the cause of countless floods and thus permanent Remixer of the valley landscape. The hills were covered with huge forests. There, the first inhabitants settled, cleared and urbanized the country.

Traffic

The Olten and Aarau, located about 7-8 km from Däniken away. Däniken is accessible only by a railway station, at the SBB main line Bern- Zurich, by public transport. During the rush hour the Olten and Aarau, every half hour can be achieved. On weekdays there is a bus that connects the village to the train station. The two nearest motorway connections to the A1 ( Bern- Zurich ) can be reached within 15 minutes.

The village coat of arms shows a white (heraldry: silver ) spade on blue background dar. This spade is a plowshare, as it was used in the Middle Ages.
