Danny Ortiz

Danny Ortiz ( born July 26, 1976 in Las Palmas, † 29 February 2004 in Guatemala City ) was a Guatemalan football player.

Career

Association

Ortiz learned the Football ABC in various youth clubs in Guatemala. His professional career began in 1998 when CD Suchitepéquez. After two years he moved to league rival Deportivo Carcha. 2001 then he moved to the Guatemalan giants Comunicaciones CSD, a year later, he signed the other league's top club CSD Municipal. With Municipal he immediately won 2002 Apertura championship. The following year, the victory of the Apertura title succeeded. On February 29, 2004 in a game against his club CSD Municipal CSD Comunicaciones, the goalkeeper suffered after a clash with the opposing striker Mario Rafael Rodríguez a crack of the pericardium and died because the hospital.

National

Ortiz played as a goalkeeper in the Guatemalan national football team. In February 2001, he made his debut in a friendly against Panama his debut for the colors of his country. Shortly thereafter, he was in the squad for the Central American Cup, where Guatemala was able to win the title. The following year, Ortiz was in the squad at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2002, where he is number two in the team of coach Julio César Cortés was behind Edgar Estrada. After the 1:3 - opening defeat, Ortiz ran in the second and final group match against El Salvador in the starting lineup of his team. The game was lost 0:1 and Guatemala retired from the tournament. Until his death in 2004, he was appointed a regular in the national team.
