Danse de la chèvre

Danse de la chèvre H. 39 is a composition by the French-Swiss composer Arthur Honegger ( 1892-1955 ) for Flute solo.

Honegger Danse de la chèvre composed ( German: "Goat Dance " ) for flute solo in 1921 as incidental music for the dancer Lysana in the play La Pensee Mauvaise by Sacha Derek. It is dedicated to the flutist René Leroy. The premiere took place at the Paris Nouveau Théâtre on 2 December 1921.

The three and a half minutes long piece is divided into three parts. The Lent overwritten beginning is in 4/4-time and is characterized by an ascending tritone motif and two fourths. The middle part is dominated by a Danse bockbeinige goat jumps evozierendes motif. It is in 9/8-Takt and carries the tempo marking Vif. In the last 5 bars ( Lent, 4/4-time ) the quiet opening motif is resumed.

1932, the work in the publishing Salabert was published. The original manuscript has not survived. Danse de la chèvre is one of the most famous solo compositions from the 20th century for flute and was therefore often recorded.
