Danu (Asura)

Danu (Sanskrit दनु danu f ) is a Vedic goddess and is considered in Hindu mythology as the mother of the demonic Danavas.

In the Rigveda Danu is the mother of the serpent demon Vritra, who is attacked by Indra, one of the highest Vedic gods. In the post-Vedic period it is considered as the daughter of Daksha and is one of twelve women of the sage Kashyapa, by which it is the mother of the Danava. Their main is Viprachitti, the father of Rahu.
