Dapaong is the northernmost city of Togo and the Togolese capital of the region Savanes.

The city is located about 25 kilometers east of the border with Ghana and south of the border with Burkina Faso. The capital Lomé is located just over 500 kilometers in a straight line to the south.

A population of 49,000 (as of 1 July 2003) is likely to be much more realistic than other data only go out of the 11,400 residents.

Dapaong lies in a flat plane at 300 meters above sea level. The landscape on the border of the Sahel zone is dominated by a rather dry steppe climate, hence the name of the Savanes region is derived ( = savannahs ).
