Career of the band

Dark at Dawn was founded ( drums, keyboard, partly studio guitar and production) 1993 by Thorsten Kohlrausch (vocals), Oliver Schoening (guitar ), Peter Arenz (guitar ), Michael Lowin (bass) and Thorsten Sauerbrey. Even before the recording of the first demo tapes The Awakening in May 1993, guitarist Oliver Schoening the band and was replaced by Christian Wille. In this line, several local gigs are played, will is to listen only on the As Daylight Fades demo tapes recorded in June of 1994. Shortly after the publication took guitarist Jan Christian Baumgartner the place of Christian Wille.

In July 1995, the third demo Oceans of Time was recorded with five tracks. This demo makes the band in other parts of the Republic known. There performances were completed in several states, Dark at Dawn played at the Wacken Open Air and as support for Saxon and Nina Hagen.

The demo Oceans of Time sold about 1200 to 1996 times. In Rock Hard appeared an interview and the band won the Metal Live Contest of the fanzine Evil Message. In the same year, however, guitarist Peter Arenz got out. 1997 concerts were played again. Live amplification were Dark at Dawn here by guest guitarist Florian Schröder and Kai Duda. The band began planning a first long player, but it came as a surprise to the departure of drummer and founding member Thorsten Sauerbrey and Jan Christian Baumgartner. The vacant guitar position was taken by Matthias Majkowski and new drummer was Michael Wolf. The band went into the studio and took some test shots, but the line-up changes difficult conditions. It was quiet around Dark at Dawn and Michael Wolf left the band later that year.

1998 rose drummer Thorsten Sauerbrey again and guitarist Florian Schröder became a full member of the band. The band recorded a promo CD that was sent to labels. It came to an agreement with Iron Glory Records. After problems between management and label Dark at Dawn went went at their own expense to the already booked the studio and separated by management. It was produced in the Spacelab Studio. On 29 November 1999 Baneful Skies was released. The group on the album by guest vocalist Judith Stüber was supported.

Their 2001 release, the album Crimson Frost, produced by Andy Classen and distribution of Warner - Chappell Music. Since Dark at Dawn were not very happy with the promotion of their record company, they took with some guest musicians a few old songs new to to meet their contract and then to look for a new label; However, the two guitarists left the band later that year. Drummer Thorsten Sauerbrey played the guitars now also, since the studio was already booked. First Beams of Light - Rediscovered Tracks was released in November 2002.

Dark at Dawn found in the published AFM Records directly a label. The band then continued to work as a trio and released a year later Of Decay and Desire. Anissa Taggatz was represented this time as a guest singer. For concerts, the ex-members Matthias Majkowski and Florian Schröder again took over the guitars. After the self-titled fifth album was finished recorded, the label time was with the release until mid-2006.

2007, the group disbanded after a farewell concert at the Rock Harz Open Air.

In the summer of 2012, the signs that the band could come together again multiplied.
