Darlene Cates
Rita Darlene Cates ( born December 13, 1947 in Borger, Texas ) is an American actress.
Life
Cates grew up as the daughter of housewife Dorothy Ann Primmer and the gas station attendant Truman Madison Guthrie in Dumas, Texas, on. Her parents divorced when she was 12 years old. Two years later, she met her future husband; they hid him her actual age of only 14 years. On January 11, 1963, the unlikely pair eventually married.
In her early years Cates sought solace in food. A thyroid dysfunction and a slower metabolism, weight gain increased significantly. 1981 her a gastric band was used at a weight of 153 kg converted and they took off about 37 pounds. From 1986, Cates was tied almost two years to the bed. By bedridden finally reached a weight of more than 200 kilograms.
With her husband Bob Darlene Cates has a daughter and two sons.
Career
Cates made her film debut in Lasse Hallstrom movie Gilbert Grape - Somewhere in Iowa, in which she stars alongside Johnny Depp, Juliette Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio are morbidly obese mother of embodied Depp title character. Cates was chosen for the role of Bonnie Grape after the author Peter Hedges had seen a recording of the talk show Sally Jessy Raphael on " Too hard to leave one's own house " in which Cates from her self-imposed prison because of their disease and obesity reported. She described their weight in a later interview as " the 550 pound " (equivalent to about 250 kilograms).
This was followed by roles in television series such as success Picket Fences - Tatort garden fence and Touched by an Angel and a cameo appearance in the show Wolf Girl of the USA Network. The television producer J. Miles Dale this had to be a part of the film crew and the two young leading actors Dov Tiefenbach and Victoria Sanchez from Romania flown to Texas to turn off the scenes with Cates.
