Darod

The Darod ( Somali: Darod, sometimes also called Banu Dawud ) are a clan of the Somali. They make up about 20 % of the population of Somalia. Depending on the source, the Darod or Hawiye be specified as the numerically largest Somali clan.

They live mainly in the north- east of Somalia in the Horn of Africa ( Puntland ), in the Ethiopian Somali region ( Ogaden ) and in Jubaland and the adjacent northeastern Kenya. Sub clan of Darod are, inter alia,

  • Wars Angeli
  • Majerteen
  • Dashiishe

Founding father of the Darod to have been the Muslim patriarch Sheikh Darod Jabarti, the local patriarch daughter Doombira you married after the year 1000.
