Darondo

Darondo (actually William Pulliam, * ca 1946 in Berkeley, † June 9, 2013 in San Francisco) was an American soul and funk singer who was active in the music scene of San Francisco.

Life and work

Darondo was eight years old his first guitar; with school friends, he founded the house band of the youth club Lucky 13 After an apprenticeship as an electrician, he began in the late 1960s, his music career. In 1970 he recorded a first single, How I Got Over for the independent label Ocampo, but this was played due to distribution problems only on the local radio station KSOL. Beginning of the 1970s, he performed the opening act for Sly Stone and James Brown; In 1973 he had a minor hit with Did not I; at the session further material for an LP, but did not materialize was born. Another single ( Legs ) appeared on the small label Af - Fa World. In the 1980s, the success subsided; Darondo yet appeared in a number of local cable - TV shows such as darondo 's Penthouse After Dark, Doze Comedy Videos and children's program Tapper the Rabbit. After living end of the decade in the Fiji Islands, he returned to Berkeley and began training as a physiotherapist. In 2005 his hit Did not I was re-released by Gilles Peterson. Darondos songs experienced a comeback, by the use in films such as Saint John of Las Vegas (2009), Life on Mars, Night Catches Us ( 2010) and Jack in Love ( 2010) and the hit series " Breaking Bad". They were partially re-released on the label Omnivore Recordings and Ubiquity / Luv N Haight Records. Darondo died in 2013 at the age of 67 years to a heart attack.
