Dartmouth and Torbay Railway

The Dartmouth and Torbay Railway was a British railway company in Devon in England.

The Company received on 27 July 1857, the concession to build a broad gauge ( 2140 mm) railway line from the end of the South Devon Railway (SDR ) in Torre across Torbay to Kingswear, a town on the opposite side of the River Dart Dartmouth. The track was (later Churston ) opens to Kingswear on August 2, 1859 to Paignton, on 14 March 1861 to Brixham Road and on 16 August 1864. The SDR operating the route and rented it from 1 January 1866. Shortly afterwards, she was completely taken over by it. 1892 the conversion to standard gauge

On the section between Paignton and Dartmount a heritage railway operating the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway is carried out since the fall of 1972.
