Darwin's tubercle

The Darwin - ear bump, bump or Darwin Darwinian ear cartilage hump is an extension on the outer edge of the ear of man. He is present at about 10.4 per cent of all people.

Named after Charles Darwin ear cusp was interpreted by him as an evolutionary vestige of formerly pointed mammalian ear and is therefore regarded as atavism. Although named after Darwin, it was first described by the British sculptor Thomas Woolner.
