The Dave Brubeck Quartet was a jazz quartet, founded in 1951 by Dave Brubeck on piano with Paul Desmond on saxophone. They played a long time in Blackhawk Club in San Francisco and learned a great awareness through albums such as Jazz at Oberlin, Jazz Goes to College, and Jazz Goes to Junior College.

In 1958, according to different drummers and bassists, known as the "Classic Quartet ", which was composed of Brubeck, Desmond, Joe Morello on drums and Eugene Wright on bass and until the dissolution of the band had formed up inventory. In 1959, the Dave Brubeck Quartet released his album Time Out. It contained only original compositions, of which almost none of them stood in the ordinary 4/4-time. Nevertheless, the album reached "Pick Up Sticks " quickly went platinum with titles like " Take Five ", " Blue Rondo à la Turk " and. The quartet was in this success with albums such as Time Further Out ( 1961), Time in Outer Space and Time Changes tie. The Dave Brubeck Quartet broke up in 1967, and met for the 25th anniversary in 1976 together again.

Brubeck also played apart from the Classic Quartet often as a quartet, such as The New Brubeck Quartet (1977 - 1990 ) with three of his sons, or as The Dave Brubeck Trio & Gerry Mulligan (1968 - 1972). Since the early 2000s Brubeck calls his band with Bobby Militello ( sax ), Michael Moore ( bass) and Randy Jones ( drums) again The Dave Brubeck Quartet.
