Dave Semenko

David John Semenko ( born July 12, 1957 in Winnipeg, Manitoba ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who played from 1977 to 1988 for the Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers and Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League. The left winger was considered Enforcer because of its body-hugging style of play and robustness.

Career

Semenko played during his junior Brandon Wheat Kings for the time of the Western Hockey League ( WHL). Even with the Wheat Kings, he fell upon because of his hard play and sat in 152 WHL games a total of 511 penalty minutes on the bench. He was selected stars at the WHA Amateur Draft in 1977 in the second round by a total of 21 position of the Houston Aeros and the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 in the second round by a total of 25 position of the Minnesota North. He played until 1978 at the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL and was transferred in November 1978 to the Edmonton Oilers. Semenko played in his first two years in Edmonton with the Oilers in the World Hockey Association (WHA ). After the dissolution of the WHA in 1979, he joined the Oilers in the National Hockey League.

In the following season of Canadians belonged to the tribe squad the team and carried out its mission, the former stars of the Oilers, Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri and Paul Coffey to protect. After serving in the Central Hockey League Wind launched the 1980/81 season in Wichita, he completed the bulk of the playing time again in Edmonton. In that season he received in 66 NHL games only 88 penalty minutes, which was the lowest rate in his NHL career. In the following season he reached 196 penalty minutes in 63 games. His greatest successes came in the season 1983/84 and 1984/85, when he was able to win the Stanley Cup with the Oilers.

On December 12, 1986, the Oilers gave him from the Hartford Whalers for a third-round draft pick for 1988. Semenko graduated yet 55 NHL games for the Whalers. He was released on 8 September 1987 by the leaders of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Whalers were compensated with the Defense Bill Root.

In Toronto managed Samenko again for regular players and ended after the 1987/88 season, his active career.
