Dave Wakeling

Dave Wakeling ( born February 19, 1956) is a British musician. Wakeling is best known as the lead singer of the musical group The English Beat and General Public.

Biography

Wakeling 1979 was one of the founding members of The English Beat. In addition to his role as a singer, he also played guitar. After the band disbanded in 1983, he founded with his bandmates Ranking Roger General Public, which was to exist until 1986.

In 1988 he released a solo album under the title No Warning. It was based more on the pop sound of the General Public as the hard Skasound of The English Beat. The single She's Having a Baby, also appears on the soundtrack to the film directed by John Hughes. The single I Want More succeeded in 1991 reaching number 11 on the U.S. charts.

1994, led to a renewed cooperation with Ranking Roger, when you recorded a song for the lonely Zweisam Dreisamstadion soundtrack. The following year, a new General Public album was released, but which it sold miserably. Thereupon General Public separated again.

If Wakeling touring, he calls the backing band often either General Public and The English Beat. Since 2003, The English Beat occurs irregularly back to the original members.
