Dave Weckl

Dave Weckl (actually David Joseph Weckl, born January 8, 1960 in St. Louis, Missouri ) is an American jazz and fusion drummer.

Career as a musician

Weckl studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston / Massachusetts. Having already played with the top 20 various studio and live jobs (including the Simon & Garfunkel tour 1982), the jazz world was the mid-1980s attention to him - mainly due to his work with Chick Corea and the Elektric - and Akoustic band. After separation by Chick Corea ( the Weckl by Gary Novak replaced ), he worked primarily with jazz guitarist Mike Stern. In 1989 he was contributor in the legendary " Buddy Rich Memorial Concert".

Besides his work as a studio musician and lecturer ( clinics, workshops, working at the Drummers Collective, NY), he published several solo albums that are musically based in the fusion area and still clearly bear the signature Chick Corea. Chick Corea has been involved in some of the recordings themselves. Along with its own fixed band - the Dave Weckl Band - he developed his own style. There are now five studio plates, a best- of compilation and a live album emerged.

For the development that went through Weckl in recent years, to a large extent the drummer Freddie Gruber has helped. With him Weckl has once again - took lessons - mid-thirties. Weckls game is technically at the highest level, but nowadays seems more relaxed and less " machine-like " than it was in the late 80s. The inclusion of percussion instruments such as djembe and bongos on drumset and their simultaneous play along with the regular set, new opportunities for play the drums were.

As the newly formed Chick Corea Elektric Band toured Europe in spring 2004, Dave Weckl was back again with.
