David Bailly

The Dutch painter David Bailly (* 1584 in Leiden, † 1657 ) was a son of the painter Pieter Bailly and devoted himself to portraiture. Besides created Vanitas Still Life.

Biography

In addition to his father taught him the engraver Jacques de Gheyn, which may explain his detailed drawing style. From 1601 he worked with the painter Cornelius van der Voort in Amsterdam.

From 1608 to 1613 he traveled in Germany and Italy. So he held, inter alia, a year in Hamburg, traveled to Venice and Rome and worked at various German courts.

After his return he portrayed students and professors of the University of Leiden.
