David Barclay (congressman)

David Barclay (* 1823 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, † September 10, 1889 in Freeport, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

David Barclay attended the Washington College. After a subsequent law school in Pittsburgh, and his admission to the bar he began in the cities of Punxsutawney, Brookville and Kittanning to work in this profession. Between 1850 and 1855 he was one of the editors of the newspapers Pittsburgh Union and Legal Journal. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1854 Barclay was in the 24th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded John Dick took on 4 March 1855 who moved in the 25th district. Until March 3, 1857, he was able to complete a term in Congress. This was marked by the events leading up to the Civil War.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives David Barclay again practiced as a lawyer. He died on September 10, 1889 in Freeport, where he was also buried.
