David Blondel

David Blondel ( * September 25, 1590 in Chalons-en -Champagne, † April 6, 1655 ) was a Reformed theologian and was above all characterized announced that he had refuted the authenticity of Pope Joan. He received praise from Pierre Bayle, " one of the men to have been, had the most comprehensive knowledge of the secular and church history ."

Life

After his studies in Geneva and Sedan Blondel was a pastor in Houdan and later Roucy. Through work, mainly concerning the history of the Church, he soon earned a reputation as a scholar. In 1631 they suggested to him to become a professor at the Academy of Saumur, but community and national synod held him.

In 1628 he published his proof that it is counterfeit is in the canonically important Pseudo- Decretals ( Pseudoisidorus et Turrianus vapulantes ). He showed that texts were cited by authors who were born until centuries after the death of the alleged author.

To facilitate its work study him, the Synod of Ile de France allowed to draw 1644 to Paris. The now better salary of Honorary Professor facilitated the work from 1645 also. Already in 1650 he moved back to Amsterdam but the Ecole Illustre.
