David J. Cooney

David John Cooney ( born April 29, 1954 in London, England) is an Irish diplomat.

Cooney studied at Keele University politics and history. In 1976, he received his Bachelor of Arts with honors. Cooney now began in the Irish Department of Agriculture ( Department of Agriculture) to work in Dublin as Executive Officer. In 1978 he moved into the also located in Dublin Ministry of Public Service ( Department of Public Service ) and was active here until 1979 as Administrative Officer. He then moved in 1979, the Irish Department of State (Foreign Affairs ). According to various posts as Third Secretary Cooney was from 1981 to 1985 Secretary of the Irish Embassy to the Holy See.

His other diplomatic career in which he held various positions, led him among other things to the Irish embassies in Vienna, Brussels and Paris. From 2000 to 2001 he was Deputy Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations in New York City with the rank of ambassador. In 2005, he released Richard Ryan from the Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations in New York City. He held that office until 2007 and was then succeeded by John Paul Kavanagh. Cooney has now new Irish ambassador to the United Kingdom and has held this post of 2007 to 2009. Cooney now returned to Ireland back to the Irish Foreign Ministry Secretary General to be. In the same year his honorary doctorate from Keele University was awarded.

Cooney is married and has four children, one son and three daughters.
