David Johnson (footballer born 1976)

David Anthony Johnson ( born August 15, 1976 in Kingston) is a former Jamaican soccer player who achieved fame mainly through his time with the English clubs Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest.

Playing career

Bury FC and Ipswich Town

After he remained implies denying in the first team of Manchester United's breakthrough, David Johnson joined in July 1995 for Bury FC. With the fourth division from the nearby Manchester situated Bury Johnson rose 1995/96 in the third league. In the season 1996/97 Johnson reached (44 league games / 8 results) with Bury winning the third league championship, and thus the direct walkover in the second division.

On November 13, 1997, he moved to the second division Ipswich Town and accumulated through the end of the season the Football League First Division 1997/98 twenty league goals for his new club. After thirteen goals in the 1998/99 season and a renewed from in the first play-off round, David Johnson scored 1999/2000 22 league matches and topped with Ipswich to a 4-2 play-off final against FC Barnsley the first division.

Nottingham Forest

After fourteen scoreless games in the Premier League 2000 /01 Johnson changed on 12 January 2001 to the second division Nottingham Forest. After he was unable to repeat his earlier success rate at Forest, he was loaned in the second half of the season 2001 /02 at Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley.

In the Football League First Division 2002/ 03 Johnson presented ( 25 goals ) his marksmanship repeatedly demonstrated and formed with Marlon Harewood ( 20 goals ) is the best strike partnership in the league. Nottingham Forest moved as a table sixth in the play-offs, but there failed prematurely at Sheffield United ( 1:1 and 3:4 after extra time ). Johnson was selected as the award for his good performances together with his teammate Michael Dawson in the PFA Team of the Year the second division.

Due to injury, he fell in 2003/ 04 from half a year and played only 17 league games (7 goals). In the newly introduced Football League Championship 2004/ 05 he was able to achieve only six goals for his relegation-threatened club and was loaned in the final stages of the season at Sheffield United. Since Nottingham was staying as Penultimate, Johnson played (17 games / 3 goals ) and his team in 2005/ 06 only in the third-tier Football League One. In November 2005, he suffered a back injury that eventually led to the premature end of his playing career.
