David Moss (musician)

David Moss ( born January 21, 1949 in New York City ) is an American percussionist, vocalist, improviser, composer and organizer of musical performance projects.

Life and artistic creation

David Moss began his musical training with a studied drums 1963-1968 at the Hartt School of Music, and from 1969 to 1970 at Wesleyan University. In 1970, he earned a degree in Russian history at Trinity College with a Bachelor of Arts. From 1971 to 1973 he was followed by a study of the composition with Bill Dixon at Bennington College.

Since 1973, David Moss entered the world as a percussionist and vocal artists in solo concerts or in collaboration with orchestras, music and theater ensembles. He is regarded since the mid- 1970s as a central figure of the New improvisation music, art-rock and noise music. In his solo performances, he combines live electronics and his headstrong compiled drums with artistic vocal deposits.

Since the 1990s, David Moss working more and more with composers such as Heiner Goebbels, orchestras and theater ensembles and has appeared in numerous opera productions, musical theater productions, orchestral concerts and festivals as a soloist, including with the Ensemble Modern, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the ensemble intercontemporain, the Arditti Quartet, the sound forum Vienna, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the musical theater ear pilot and the Berlin Philharmonic. He is co-founder and artistic director of the Institute for Living Voice, a workshop center for outstanding singers and vocal musicians. With Paul Dutton, Koichi Makigami, Phil Minton and Jaap Blonk, he founded the group Five Men Singing, which occurred at the festival in Victoriaville.

In 2001 he was seen at the Salzburg Festival as Prince Orlovsky in the controversial staging of the bat by Hans Neuenfels
