David Noble (canyoner)

David Noble (born 1965 ) is an Australian who in 1994 gained fame due to his discovery of Wollemia ( Wollemia nobilis) in the Wollemi National Park.

Nobles parents, John and Olive Noble, who emigrated from England to Australia when David was two years old.

Noble explored a variety of hard to reach areas of the Wollemi National Park; among others, he explored the canyons in the park. While he was employed as a "field officer" at the National Parks and Wildlife Service ( NSW), he discovered on 10 September 1994, the hitherto known only from the fossil record Wollemia. Him the epithet " nobilis " was selected for the botanical name in honor.

After his spectacular discovery, he earned a "Bachelor of Applied Science " and was promoted to Ranger.
