David Rudisha

David Lekuta Rudisha ( born December 17, 1988 in Trans Mara District Kilgoris, Rift Valley Province) is a Kenyan middle distance runner who specializes in the 800 -meter run. On this route he is Olympic champion, current world champion and since August 2010 the world record holder.

Career

International Rudisha appeared for the first time at the Junior World Championships in 2006 in Beijing in appearance, when he won the title in the 800 -meter run. This triumph he repeated a year later at the IAAF Junior Africa Championships. In 2007 he established himself with victories at the World Class Zurich and at the Memorial Van Damme impressive even in the adult area.

In the Africa Championships 2008 in Addis Ababa Rudisha won in 1:44,20 minutes again and put it a new championship record. However, he missed the World Championships in Berlin in 2009 into the finals scarce. A short time later, on September 6th 2009, he ran the athletics meeting in Rieti the 800m in 1:42,01 min. He broke the 25 -year-old African record of his compatriot Sammy Koskei and sat down at the fourth place in the eternal world leaderboard. On July 10, 2010 Rudisha ran in Heusden- Zolder 1:41,51 with a new personal best on the 800 m min. He undercut as the fourth runner in history to Wilson Kipketer, Sebastian Coe and Joaquim Cruz, the 1:42 -minute mark and sat down behind Kipketer at position two of the eternal world leaderboard. Almost three weeks later, Rudisha defended at the Africa Championships in Nairobi his title in the 800 -meter run successfully and improved his own championship record by over a second on 1:42,84 min. 22 August 2010 Rudisha ran a new world record at the ISTAF in Berlin. With a time of 1:41,09 min he improved the old world record of Wilson Kipketer, who had almost 13 years inventory to two hundredths of a second. Only a week later, Rudisha increased the brand in Rieti to 1:41,01 min.

At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, he won over his parade route in 1:43,91 minutes before the World Indoor champion Abubaker Kaki from Sudan and the former Olympic champion Yuri Borzakovsky from Russia.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London Rudisha won in a new world record time of 1:40,91 min the gold medal. The World Championships in 2013, he had to withdraw due to a knee injury.

Others

David Rudisha is the first Olympic champion of the ethnic group of Maasai. This is remarkable, as the most successful Kenyan athletes from the Kalenjin ethnic group originate.

David Rudishas father Daniel Rudisha won the silver medal with the Kenyan 4 x 400 - meter relay at the 1968 Olympic Games.

Since 2010 Rudisha trained during the summer months in Baden-Württemberg Tübingen.
