David Shambaugh

David Shambaugh Leigh ( born 1953 ) is an American political scientist specializing in Chinese politics.

Shambaugh studied at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University in Washington, where he also teaches today. His Master in International Relations, he completed at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University, his Ph.D. in political science at the University of Michigan.

Shambaugh worked for various U.S. government agencies as a consultant, among other things, the Bureau of Intelligence and Research of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( 1976-77 ), the National Security Council ( 1977-78 ) and as "Acting Director" of the Asia Program of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars ( 1987-1988). In addition, he taught at the University of London 's School of Oriental and African Studies (1988-1996), he is since 1996 director of " The China Policy Program " at the Elliott School of International Affairs. Between 1991 and 1996, Shambaugh was as editor of the China Quarterly.

David Shambaugh is a recognized expert in the field of Chinese foreign, domestic and security policy and international relations in Asia in general. He frequently writes in the international media, as is quoted as an expert.
