David Stoll

David Stoll ( born February 28, 1952) is an American anthropologist. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology at the University of Michigan and received his master 's and his doctorate at Stanford University.

Stoll spent in the 1980s and 1990s a lot of time in Latin American countries such as Guatemala or Colombia, where his research is focused. Outside experts Stoll was known for his book " Rigoberta Menchú and the Story of All Poor Guatemalans ," which triggered a controversy which was shown prominently in the New York Times on the front page. Stoll refers here to discrepancies between the results of his fieldwork and statements in the memoir " Yo, Rigoberta Menchú ," the Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchú. Stoll criticized while the interpretation of Menchú's story by many Western academics, as this would romanticize guerrillas in Latin America.
