David & the Citizens

David & the Citizens was a Swedish indie rock band from Malmö.

Band History

David Fridlund founded the band in 1999 four weeks after his move from Stockholm to Malmö. The founding members were Mikael Carlsson, Jenny Wilson and Karl -Jonas Winqvist. In the same year the band took part in the first Hultsfredfestival, the largest Popveranstaltung in Sweden. Jenny Wilson and Karl -Jonas Winqvist left the group to start in Stockholm with First Floor Power own band. Alexander Madsen, Conny Fridh and later Magnus Bjerkert then came the band and became the new Citizens. The debut of the band was the first EP and was released on 9 April 2001 as all other productions at Adrian Recordings, a company founded by band member Magnus Bjerkert record label. The following publications all had great success in Sweden. Highlights so far include appearances at every major festival in Sweden - only three times during Hultsfredfestival - a Grammy nomination for best pop band, the No. 1 in the MTV Nordic charts with the video for Song Against Life and honored with the Indie Gold Record.

2006 brought some changes: Alexander Madsen, Mikael Carlsson and left the band, John Bjerkert was added. The collaboration with Adrian Recordings has been canceled, you moved to Bad Taste Records, where already in the same year the new EP Are You In My Blood? appeared. On 5 February 2007 then gave Bad Taste Records in a press statement announced that David and the Citizens were separated and therefore any upcoming spring concerts were canceled. In the fall of 2007 David Fridlund let it be known, however, that the band - perhaps with a new cast - will continue to exist, issuing A House With No Windows in a demo version. In December 2007, the EP I Saw My Reflection And I Did not Recognize Myself was released as a free download. In August 2008, Fridlund finally announced that David & the Citizens to take a break and he solo as David Fridlund will work for a while.
