David Wayne

David Wayne ( born January 30, 1914 in Traverse City, Michigan, as Wayne James McMeekan; † February 9, 1995 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American actor.

Life

1947, the theater actor Wayne the Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor on Broadway. This earned him a career boost and he made his film debut a year later on the side of Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotten in Jenny. 1949, the actor played alongside Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy in Adam's Rib and soon established himself as a supporting actor.

His greatest success, however, reached David Wayne in 1953 as Freddie Denmark in Marilyn Monroe film How to Marry a Millionaire. Besides Wayne appeared primarily in later years in numerous television productions, such as 1978 as Digger Barnes in Dallas or 1986 as Big Daddy in Golden Girls. In 1987 he retired from acting. Wayne was married from 1941 until her death in 1993, with Jane Gordon. He died in 1995 from lung cancer.
