Daxue Mountains

Daxue Shan (Chinese大雪山, Pinyin Daxue Shān ) or As Xueshan (Da Xueshan; ' Big Snow Mountain ") is a mountain in Sichuan province in southwestern China, the highest in the Hengduan Shan. It is situated in the Autonomous District Garzê ( Ganzi ) Tibetan.

It is the watershed between the Yalong Jiang (Tib. nyag chu ) and Dadu He ( Tib. rgyal rgyal mo rong rngul chu ).

The mountain range extends over 400 km, its highest peak is the Gongga Shan (Tibetan gangs dkar ri ) ( 7556 m) in the south of the district Kangding. It is covered with coniferous forests and mountain steppes. In its highest parts, there are glaciers.

The Sichuan -Tibet road ( Chuan - Zang Gonglu ) leads through the mountains.

During the Long March, the mountains of the Chinese Red Army of Workers and Peasants ( Zhōngguó Gong Nong Hongjun ) was crossed in May 1935.
