The plant belongs to the Guangdong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Company, Ltd.. It lies on the Dapeng Bay, a bay on the Dapeng Peninsula. One kilometer away there is also the nuclear power plant Ling'ao. The two reactors were supplied by Framatome. Since 2011, the Daya Bay experiment is operated at the site, which uses the Daya Wan power plant and the adjacent Ling'ao blocks as neutrino source.

Incidents

On 23 May 2010, a leak occurred in a fuel rod of the reactor 2. This was observed by an increase of the radioactivity in the coolant of the reactor. According to Radio Free Asia is intended to be released into the environment, a greater amount of radioactive iodine. However, the operator of the power plant announced that the increase of radioactivity was limited to the coolant, there had been no release of radioactivity and the operation of the reactor was not affected. Monitoring stations in Hong Kong would not have any abnormal levels of radioactivity since 23 May measured.
