Daya-Nand Verma

Daya - Nand Verma ( born June 25, 1933, Varanasi, † 10 June, 2012 Mumbai) was an Indian mathematician who dealt with representation theory of Lie algebras.

Verma 1966 PhD at Yale University in Nathan Jacobson ( Structure of some induced representations of complex semisimple Liealgebras ). It introduced representations of Lie algebras, which later became known as Verma modules. 1967/68 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study. From 1968 he worked at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai, where he remained for the rest of his career, except for visiting professorships in the United States and Europe. In 1994, he went into retirement.
