DB Class VT 12.5

The VT 125 series refers to a former diesel railcar of the German Federal Railroad, which was built in 1953 for the first time. It was used two -, three - or four-piece, a railcar VT 12 was supplemented by non-driving medium (VM 12) and vehicles ( VS 12 ) to a multiple unit. Three-piece units were usually put together with two railcars Wi- drive intermediate cars. As planned, the trainsets were compiled and used in the cities rapid transit of twelve power heads and four control cars and 13 intermediate cars. The VT had 125 saloons in two classes.

History

With the experience gained from the experimental railcar VT 92 VT 125 was designed for regional traffic and used there until 1984. Four railcars from railcars, medium cars and driving cars were delivered in 1953 as VT / VM / VS 12501-504. 1957 came another eight railcar VT 12505-512 and 12505-513 nine intermediate cars VM to do so. Five supernumerary VS 08.5 were about 1957 to control car VS 12505-509 rebuilt. This second delivery was set up for the ferry traffic to Denmark. Until 1971, the long-distance transport variant VT 085 was the VT 125 matched and named after conversion as VT 126. From 1968, the VT contributed 125 EDP series designation 612, the VT 126 were redrawn in 613. After initial deployments of Cologne and Dortmund from the railcars for many years in Hamburg- Altona and, from 1982, were stationed in Brunswick.

Technology

The VT 125 was derived from the high-speed railcars VT 085. Externally, can the VT 125, VT 085 only by the additional central entrance doors and end doors wider differ. The first four trains also led the third class, which was led by the class reform in 1956 as a 2nd class delivery at the difference. Another difference relates to the heating system: The VT 125 had a central oil-fired hot water heater for up to three cars, which was housed in the motor vehicle, while the VT had 08 independent oil-fired heaters in each car. This curtailed a free trains combination with the VT 08.5. The engine had a car next to the driver's cab, which was compared to the VT 08.5 slightly enlarged, as in this one bag and a mail compartment. In addition, there was a big space compartment with 44 seats with center aisle 2 2 for the third class (2nd class) in compartment 1600 mm depth. In the middle car was in a car half just such a large space compartment, on the other a third - class metropolitan area with 28 seats and, towards the end, a widebody 2nd class with 20 seats at 2000 mm compartment depth. In control cars there were on the one hand, a large space compartment 2nd class with 20 seats and a third class with 16 seats and control compartment towards two large rooms 3 class with 24 and 16 seats.
