DBAG Class 225

The Class 225 of Deutsche Bahn is a four-axle Diesellokbaureihe. The locomotives belong to DB Schenker Rail Germany (formerly Railion, formerly DB Cargo) and are used in freight transport.

History

The locomotives of this series originated from 2001 through renumbering or reconstruction of 68 locomotives of the series 215 further six vehicles were redrawn from the pre-production of the series 218 to the series 225.8 2003 and 2005.

Some of the locomotives previously employed by DB Regio in passenger Series 215, the steam heating system was expanded with the sale, since it was no longer needed for freight trains. Instead, a pre-heating and hot holding equipment for the machinery was installed. A large part of the redrawn locomotives kept the first steam heating, but was rebuilt partly later, often in conjunction with major investigations. Furthermore, a special position here assume the locomotives with atomic numbers 030-032, which were equipped with electric train heating before the renumbering, which they still own, technical details can be found in the article about the series 215 In addition, the locomotives have a double traction control, 217 and 218 allow the double traction with locomotives of the series. Couple from each of a locomotive of series 217 and 225 were, for example, around Mühldorf usual.

Another technical feature have the locomotives 023-029 - also even before the renumbering for series 225 - for use in Belgium an equipment for the train control system is customary there Crocodile. In addition, the locomotives differ 225001-004 and 225802-811 extent from the rest, that they are suitable because of the lack of hydrodynamic brake is not for steep grades. In addition, the mentioned locomotives are only approved for 130 km / h.

2011 was the 225 008 at the Bremen plant a new MTU twelve-cylinder engine. It meets the EU Emmisonsstufe IIIB. Various measures such as three turbochargers and a cooled exhaust gas recirculation of emissions of nitrogen oxides is considerably reduced. In addition, a particulate filter reduces particulate emissions by 90 percent. Also the cooling system and transmission have been adjusted.
