DCNS (company)

The Direction des Constructions Navales (DCN ) was until 2008 the name of the state Marine shipyard in France. In 2004, DCN posted revenue of 2.6 billion euros a profit of 209 million euros.

Direction des Constructions Navales is responsible for the development, production and maintenance of the ships of the French Navy since 1631. The French state-owned company develops and manufactures submarines, aircraft carriers and frigates. It also offers maintenance services and system integrator. DCN is currently (2005) still in full to the State France. In June 2003 it was converted into a public limited company, but remained in state ownership. In December 2005, announced the French defense and electronics group Thales to want to acquire a 25 percent stake of DCN and bring his naval activities in the company.

Since 2008, the company trades as DCNS Group.
