The DCU Center ( Worcester Centrum earlier, Worcester 's Centrum Centre) is a multi-purpose arena in Worcester, Massachusetts. The DCU Center, which is owned by the city, in 2004 received by selling the naming rights to the Digital Federal Credit Union its present name.

History

The Worcester Centrum was built in September 1982 as an arena with 12,300 seats, but expanded by 2,500 seats to 14,800 seats in 1987. In 1997 a modernization of the entire building.

Use

The primary user of the DCU Center, the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League. Previously, the center was already home of the Worcester IceCats, who also played in the AHL. The New England Surge of the Continental Indoor Football League are also active in the DCU Center. Other users were with the New England Blazers between 1989 and 1991 a team from the Major Indoor Lacrosse League and 1994, the Massachusetts Marauders from the Arena Football League.

In the 1980s, regularly found numerous pop concerts held in Worcester, since the nearby Boston Garden was increasingly shunned because of its weaker acoustics. The DCU Center is designed as an alternative to larger TD Banknorth Garden.

Events that are held regularly in the DCU Center Disney on Ice and WWE events. In 2009 it will host the AHL All- Star Classic, the host the Worcester Sharks are in cooperation with the American Hockey League.
