De Bilt

( Listen? / I ) De Bilt is a municipality in the Netherlands, Utrecht province, with 42,025 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The adjacent villages grown De Bilt and Bilthoven form the main town. On 1 January 2001, the villages Maartensdijk, Westbroek, Hollandse rading and Groenekan were incorporated.

Location

The community is located 5 kilometers east of the city of Utrecht. Southwest of the village next to the highway Rijksweg 27 and 28 intersect Rijksweg Bilthoven The station is on the railway line from Utrecht to Amersfoort, The Hollandse rading station on the railway line from Utrecht to Hilversum. Also the farming village Maartensdijk with a picturesque town center lies between Hilversum and Utrecht.

Economy

The major employers are:

  • The KNMI ( Koninklijk Nederlands Meteorological Institute ), the Dutch weather service
  • The RIVM ( Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu ), an authority that is responsible for public health (including vaccinations and information campaigns ) and a healthy living environment (including environmental protection) responsible.

In the municipality of De Bilt is the former hospital, " Berg en Bosch" ( 1932-1962 ). Since De Bilt on the edge of the forest " Utrecht Ridge " is, there are also some tourism.
