De Doorns is a town with 11,278 inhabitants ( as of 2011) in the Breede Valley Municipality, district, Cape Winelands, Western Cape Province in South Africa. The city is located in the Hex River Valley in 460 meters from the N1 highway that connects Cape Town and Johannesburg. Worcester is located 34 kilometers south-west and 40 km north-east Touwsrivier.

History

1875 was on the farm De Doorns ( Afrikaans for ' thorns ', the name refers to the acacia trees on the banks of the Hex River ) built a railway station, which grew over the years into a city.

Known the place is a romantic South African Legend: The Buffelskraal farm ( now called the Clovelly ) was the birthplace of Eliza Meiring, a pretty girl. To test her suitors in 1786, this should bring her from the nearby 2249 meters high Matroosberg a Disa ( orchid ). The young man she preferred to set out on the path, but stumbled and fell on the mountain to death. As Eliza learned of this, she was insane and was confined to her room upstairs. In their attempt to open a window, she stumbled and also came to death.
