De Maizière

De Maizière is the name of a Huguenot family that was coming from France settled in the Electorate of Brandenburg in the 17th century. The family had fled in 1685 before the Huguenot persecution in France.

The name comes from Maizières- lès -Metz from the Moselle department in Lorraine. Members of the family lived at least since the St. Bartholomew's Day 1572 in Paris, and a de Maiziere to his personal physician of King Henry IV had been. The family coat of arms wearing a black jumping lion on a silver background. Ulrich de Maizieres grandfather Karl Ernst Ulrich was after he was able to prove direct lineage to 1570, change in August 1896 the family name of Maizier in de Maiziere.
