De Nolet
The Noletmühle (Dutch Noletmolen shortly De Nolet, German The Nolet ) is a wind power station in Schiedam in the Netherlands, which was built in the style of a Dutch windmill. She's since its completion in 2006, the highest " classic " built wind mill in the world.
History
Background
Since the 18th century coined a group of particularly high Galerieholländer windmills the townscape of Schiedam. These mills were formerly mainly for grinding of malt for the numerous local distilleries. Of the former more than 20 Schiedam mills are now only five received. Of these, the mill De Noord (built in 1803) with a cap height ( without wings ) of 33.3 m is the highest. Since the cap of the former 38 meter high Mill De Hoop was dismantled in 1927 Breda, De Noord was the highest historical windmill in the world.
New
In 2005 the distillery Nolet Distillery Schiedam left for promotional purposes in addition to its premises a new windmill in old-style build which went into operation in May 2006. During the construction we surpassed with a cap height of 42.5 m, the previous record holder De Noord by almost 10 m. When Impeller De Nolet, however, lies with 29,85 m behind the Murphy Mill (35 m), a 1905 in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco ( USA) built for irrigation of Dutch windmill with optics.
Technology
Unlike their historical predecessors, the Noletmühle not used for grinding grain or malt, but to generate electricity for their own use of the Nolet Distillery. Unlike water mills, where a change of use as a small hydroelectric power plant occurred frequently, its use as a wind power plant with classic windmills is a rarity.
For electricity the mill in the cap was equipped with a generator with 150 kW design capacity. The mill produces about 250 MWh of electrical energy per year. The wings, which appear optically as a sail gate wings, do not need to be covered with canvas, but revolve solely by the aerodynamic profile of the rods. The inner, electrically driven Krühwerk for the Yaw of the impeller operates automatically; the outboard sword beam system ( " mush " ) is only dummy with no real function.
